Sex Workers speak for themselves!

The International Committee on the Rights of Sex Workers in Europe (ICRSE) announces a press conference in the press room of the European Parliament, Paul Henri Spaak Building,
on 17th October 2005 at 13.00.

At this press conference the results and conclusions of the European
Conference on Sex Work, Human Rights, Labour Rights and Migration to be held in Brussels October 15, 16, 17, 2005, will be presented by sex workers, our allies from international organsiations and policians.

Repressive policies on migration, public order and morality have led to the increasing vulnerability of sex workers. Anti-prostitution and anti-migration policies negatively affect the rights of sex workers, whereas increasing emphases on citizen security, law and order and closing borders have impeded the growth of rights movements in general.

Sex workers' rights organisations have decided to unite with new allies from organisations concerned with human, labour and migrants's rights. The ultimate objective is to challenge and redefine debates on prostitution, the sex industry, trafficking and migration, with sex workers playing a leading role.

The press conference will include

• Presentations by sex workers, our allies and politicians on how anti-prostition policies, the criminalisation of our clients and anti-migration policies negatively effect our living and working conditions.
• The recommandations for better policies on a national and European level conference.
• The presentation of the Declaration of the Rights of Sex Workers in Europe. This document explores the violations of sex workers fundamental human rights that are endorsed in International treaties that our governments have signed up to, lists the treaties that European governments have signed up to and identifies the rights that all citizens are entitled to and the actions states need to take to protect sex workers rights.
• The presentation of the Sex Workers Manifesto.
